JUVENILE COURT NEEDS VOLUNTEER EDUCATIONAL ADVOCATES

Training scheduled for July 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are numerous youth in our probation and foster care systems who have no parent capable of advocating for them in educational matters. In these cases, the juvenile court appoints volunteer "holders of education rights," who serves in place of a parent for the purposes of a youth's educational rights.

The holder does not act as an attorney, nor does he or she have to be a litigator. The time commitment for each volunteer is one school year. Any geographic limitations the volunteer may have will be taken into account.

Training for the role of holder of education rights will be held at the Offices of Public Counsel, 610 South Ardmore Ave., Los Angeles. The time commitment for each volunteer is one school year. Any geographical limitations the volunteer may have will be taken into account.

MY FRIEND’S PLACE NEEDS VET FOR PETS OF HOMELESS YOUTH

My Friend’s Place, a drop-in center in Hollywood that provides services for homeless youth and young adults, is looking for veterinarians who are willing to provide basic care for clients' beloved pets. For many of these young adults, their animals are their most important friends and they care passionately about their welfare. Pet care would be greatly appreciated -- whether it's a one-time-only vaccination center, a weekly visit from a veterinarian, or even a "vet sponsor" who can take an animal for a check-up at a local vet clinic. If you have ideas on how to help these furry friends, My Friend’s Place wants to hear from you.
