Imagine being a kid again...What did you want to be when you grew up? How did you get there, and who influenced your life?
As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) you can be the person who listens, who cares, who advocates for a child. CASA volunteers hold educational rights, work with a team of peers to find a safe and suitable home, advocate for medical care, and ensure that the well-being of each child is the central concern of everyone involved in that child’s life. Being a child in the foster care system is not easy but having a CASA by their side has proven to result in improved outcomes. Can you be the person who makes a difference in the life of a child who needs the support of a CASA volunteer?
More volunteers are needed to provide all the children in the Foster Care Project’s Birthday Club a gift on their birthday. Gifts may be dropped off in Pasadena or mailed in. If you have already provided a gift in 2023, would you consider taking on another child or youth?
Our mission is simple: to provide a birthday present to every foster child referred to us by the Pasadena Department of Children and Family Services. We have expanded the Birthday Club to include youth transitioning out of foster care, so the age range is from age 1 to 21. As a volunteer, you will be matched to a child who has an upcoming birthday (suggested gift cost is $25-$40). Once assigned to a foster child or youth, you will be asked to provide the same child or youth a birthday gift every year until they are no longer in foster care.
The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) protects and treats children who have suffered abuse and works with the children’s families to create a safe environment. With the new year in full swing, volunteers are needed to help with several exciting programs in Los Angeles.
Tutoring and Mentoring. These programs help the children achieve academic and social success. There are opportunities to volunteer both in-person and virtual with a minimum commitment of one hour per week. Ages range from elementary to high school students with subjects including Math, Science, English, and History.
Mental Health Activity Center. Volunteers help oversee the Activity Center, create and run weekly activities, and interact with clients and siblings during their time at the agency. This opportunity is in-person and requires a commitment of at least two hours per week.
Childcare. Volunteer to look after children under the age of 5 while a therapist meets with their parents. Childcare can be on-going or one time depending on the needs of the therapist and family with sessions lasting one to two hours.
